When cooking > 1 lb beans there's a chance for lots of foaming. Try cooking at low pressure for a few minutes longer. Also, a little oil in the cooking liquid can reduce foaming as well.
When cooking > 1/4 cup beans or rice don't do a quick release, since it will foam too much (even with oil/butter).
Red lentils: 6 mins, high pressure, quick release
1/2 cup of red lentils can foam enough to splatter during the quick release, add some oil to break the foam.
